Chinese New Year is a time for celebration and merrymaking. Family reunion feasts and open houses are a common feature and children receive ?ang pows? or little red money packets from the elders. Don?t miss the exciting lion and dragon dance performances at shopping malls and homes.

A celebration by the largest ethnic group in Sabah - the Kadazandusun and Murut communities. Held annually to give thanks for a bountiful harvest of rice, this event culminates at the state level in the district of Penampang. Here, visitors can witness and experience the Kadazandusun culture at it’s grandest scale. Join the local folks sing, dance, feast and play traditional games! This is also the time the Harvest Queen (or Unduk Ngadau) is selected.

The Ipoh Orchid Society was formed in 1996 with the aim of promoting orchid growing as a hobby and to promote eco-tourism. Besides organizing monthly shows, the society has organized several national shows and also the annually held Ipoh International Orchid Festival which started in 2001. Ipoh is the home of some of Malaysia's most respected orchid growers, whom have won a number of prizes at the International Shows.

Gawai Dayak is a harvest festival celebrated by the state’s indigenous people, particularly the Ibans and Bidayuhs, in their traditional costumes.
